How Would Batman Handle Al Qaeda?

Batman comic books have always offered
a more edgier and darker fantasy world than
the stories presented by the comic book series
of characters such as Superman, X Men, and
the Hulk.

It seems that the essence of Batman's character
lends itself to grimmer stories, since the character's
origin is based on tragedy involving the murder of a
young boy's parents.

Since various Batman comic books already deal with
adult topics, and approach these topics with a serious lifelike
story telling method, I wondered how Batman would deal with
today's most pressing issue.

How would the Dark Night from Batman comic books deal
with terrorism?

Would he tackle it at its root?

Or would he limit its intervention to sleeper cells involved
with domestic crime?

In addition to Batman's tactical approach, it would be interesting to
see how he deals with the moral issues that would arise.

Would be break his rule and apply lethal force when needed?

Perhaps not, since many of Batman's enemies, including the Joker,
already have tempted Batman to abandon his objection to lethal means.

But what if a terrorist had plans to commit mass murder, and the only
way to obtain that information was through torture.

Would Batman weigh the value of saving millions of life, versus the
inherently sadistic nature of torture?

Even though Batman comic books are meant to offer an escape from reality,
we can learn concrete lessons when applying a theoretical situation to our
present day challenges.
